New Home

First things first – this blog is now powered by WordPress.

Actually, I have always thought about moving this blog off the Blogger platform and onto WordPress, but have always put it off. Yeah I’m lazy. However, a recent announcement by the Blogger team here gave me the final push towards a complete migration. Long story short – they want to remove FTP support. For people like me, that’s like telling me I can’t use Blogger anymore for blogging.

One of the reasons why I do NOT want a blogspot.com hosted blog, is very simple – Google has this stupid habit of blocking entire ISPs from accessing their servers. I’m not kidding. Read that post I linked for more info. Yes I wrote that back in 2008. Yes the problem will still exist even today, unless Google has revised their policy of blocking entire ISPs.

To bypass that problem, FTP publishing was a workaround – Blogger will ftp all the blog entries up to a server of my choice, and these entries will sit in my own server instead of Google’s blogspot.com ones. Hence, if they start blocking entire ISPs again, my blog contents won’t be blocked.

Don’t worry about the old blog posts – they are still around, and they are still accessible. Just click on the link in the left sidebar and it will bring you to the home page of the old blog. If you do a search for my old posts, it still works too.

Yeah I’ve made the transition as transparent as possible. Only very minor differences are apparent to an observant reader, or perhaps a regular reader, of my blog.
