Facebook Finally Disable App Notifications!

I am VERY GLAD that Facebook is finally doing something about this.

Have you ever noticed your Facebook notifications? No? Let me show you mine, on a typical day:

Facebook Notification
Facebook Notification

Now, how many of those there are actually USEFUL to me?

ONE!

Yes, just one. The one saying someone commented on my friend’s status message.

The rest of the time, it’s some app screaming “Alan has beat your high score in THIS GAME. Come on, play THIS GAME and beat him!”. Hell I don’t even care if he beats it. I just loaded that game to pass time when I’m bored in Facebook. Yeah so what if he beat my “high score” of 500? Anybody can beat my score.

What’s worse are those apps that tell you that you have some messages or nudges or gifts etc in your inbox, and then when you get there, there’s NOTHING in there. Everytime I get one of those “fake” notifications, I’ll uninstall that app and block it completely.

Unlike the majority of Facebook users, I don’t go there to play games. Oh yes I know of many friends who are hooked on Facebook games. To me, I prefer games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age. You know, those games that really engage you instead of these “pass-time” kinda games.

Now the good news is, come March 1 (which is tomorrow), Facebook will disable all app notifications! Yay! The only way for you to keep receiving notifications (are you crazy?!) is to bookmark/add them to your bookmarks. Or if you follow the directions in them. I don’t know, because I don’t care. I’d much rather all these useless notifications go away so I can finally receive REAL notifications, like when a friend posted a new status message or commented to mine, replies to a post I made and so on.

You know, SOCIAL stuff? The thing that Facebook is made for? To keep in touch with your friends?

Facebook finally does something RIGHT!
